Travel Tips

Want to escape the rush-hour? Sit in a nice comfortable seat? Go further afield on a ferry? Then here are a few handy hints to help you along.

A few tips can go a long way. Take a look at these and make your journey relaxing, fun and, even better, stress-free.

  1. If you're planning a longer journey it's well worth booking your ticket at least a day in advance - it might save you even more money.

  2. Looking for inspiration? Wondering where to go and what to do? Check out the official websites for tourism in England, Scotland, and Wales:

    www.enjoyengland.com

    www.visitscotland.com

    www.visitwales.com

  3. Crowded stations, nowhere to sit, who wants to travel in rush hour? Make your journey more enjoyable and save money when you travel off-peak.

  4. Heading for the Capital? Your Railcard discount also applies to tickets which include the London Off-Peak Day Travelcard (All Zones only). That way you can travel around on tubes and buses too.

  5. If you're going further afield then most Train Companies will allow you to reserve a seat.

  6. Get your Railcard discount on bus travel as well by combining your train and bus tickets.  PLUSBUS gives you unlimited bus travel at your origin or destination station on participating bus operators.

Visit www.plusbus.info or ask at your local staffed station for further details.

  7. Fancy visiting some festivals, maybe a bit of sailing tempts you? Well, there's no room for seasickness with discounts on through rail/sea journeys. Visit the Isle of Wight, on Wightlink and Red Funnel Ferries via Portsmouth, Southampton and Lymington, to Ireland on Irish Ferries and Stena Line via Holyhead and Fishguard and Northern Ireland by Stena Line.
